More Info
Could it be possible? A player that matches the size of infamous Derek Boogaard? Well, John Scott not only matches Boogaard’s 6’8” height, but he edges out Boogaard by a pound, weighing in at 258 to Boogaard’s 257. At this point, though, John Scott is still in the shadow of Boogaard’s popularity since Scott is relatively unknown to casual hockey fans.
John Scott was born on September 26, 1982 in St. Catharine’s, Ontario. He grew up in Edmonton, Alberta then moved to the States for college. From 2002-2006, John Scott played for the Michigan Tech Huskies in the WCHA.
In 2006, John Scott was signed as a free agent by Houston for the AHL. Later that year, the Minnesota Wild signed him on December 31, 2006. He continued to play for the Houston Aeros for the next two years, though. In 2006-2007, he recorded 1 goal and 5 assists. In 2007-2008, he had 5 goals.
The Minnesota Wild brought him up for the 2008-2009 season. He saw limited playing time, but managed to make one assist during the course of the year. He made his NHL debut on January 3, 2009 in a match-up against Detroit. John Scott was able to have 5:54 of ice time and he also blocked three shots. He was recalled on March 8 for the second time that season.
