More Info
Keith Carney retired after 17 years in the National Hockey League. Keith Carney and his family reside in sunny Arizona.

Keith Carney was born on February 3, 1970 in Providence, RI. He grew up rooting for the Boston Bruins and his favorite player was Ray Borque. He credits his father and high school coach Bill Belisle as the most influential people on his NHL career.

Before going to the NHL, Carney played hockey at the University of Maine. He was named to the NCAA East First All-American Team in 1991 after receiving a second team selection the previous year. In the same two years he was named to the Hockey East All-Star Team.

Keith Carney was the Buffalo Sabres' fourth round choice (76th overall) in the 1988 NHL Entry Draft. In his 13 NHL seasons, Keith Carney has played for the Buffalo Sabres, the Chicago Blackhawks, the Phoenix Coyotes, the Anaheim Ducks, the Vancouver Canucks and the now the Minnesota Wild. Overall, he has tallied 40 goals and 160 assists in his career. But perhaps more impressively, he has recorded a +134 plus/minus ratio in his 877 career games, which ranks seventh among active NHL defensemen. Keith Carney is an extremely durable defenseman, playing in 80 games or more in seven of the past 10 seasons. So far this season, Keith Carney has appeared in 77 games for the Minnesota Wild, scoring 16 points and having a +21 plus/minus ratio, doing exactly what the Wild wanted from him: a positive presence on the ice during his shifts.

During the off-season, Keith Carney lives with his wife Amy and four children in Dana Point, CA. He wears the number three because it was assigned to him early in his NHL career and he says it also reminds him of his triplet sons. He lists the Stanley Cup Finals of 2003 with the Anaheim Ducks as his most memorable hockey experience.
