Mario Tremblay was born on September 2, 1956 in Alma, Quebec, Canada. He is the youngest player ever to put on a Montreal Canadien’s sweater when he joined the team at the age of 18 after he was drafted by the team 12th overall in the 1974 NHL Entry Draft. During his playing career, Tremblay played for 12 seasons, and he was a teammate of both Wild President/General Manager Doug Risebrough and Wild Head Coach Jacques Lemaire. The right winger recorded 584 points on 258 goals and 326 assists in 852 games. He participated in the NHL playoffs for 11 straight seasons and won five Stanley Cup Championships as a member of the Montreal Canadiens.

After his playing career, Mario Tremblay became head coach of the Montreal Canadiens in on October 21, 1995. As a head coach, Tremblay compiled a record of 71-63-25 in 159 games for the Canadiens. Before coming to coach with the Minnesota Wild, Mario Tremblay spent three seasons as a professional scout for the Montreal Canadiens. He joined the Minnesota Wild on July 24, 2000, in time for the team’s inaugural season. Tremblay has coached with the Wild for eight seasons and he has a total of 34 years of experience in the NHL.

Tremblay lives with his wife, Colette Germain, in Lilydale, Minnesota.
