Martin Havlat was born April 19, 1981 in Czechoslovakia. Standing at 6 feet 2 inches and weighing 217 pounds, Martin Havlat is the perfect size for his right wing position on the Minnesota Wild roster. Martin Havlat was drafted into the NHL in 1999 as the 26th overall pick by the Ottawa Senators. Martin Havlat deciding to remain in the Czech Republic for one more season before coming to the United States to play his rookie season with the Ottawa Senators in 2000-2001.

Martin Havlat played 6 seasons with the Ottawa Senators during which he gained a reputation for his speed skating, earning the name “Mach 9” and for his aggressive playing, he was suspended multiple times for kicking and high-sticking. Martin Havlat also spent a fair amount of time injured during his time with the Senators, including several groin, shoulder and other minor injuries.

In 2006, Martin Havlat was traded to the Blackhawks, despite an injury that took him out for almost 2 months, Martin Havlat still finished with a point-per-game average of 57 points in 56 games and an invitation to the 2007 All-Star Game. The next two seasons were marked by more injuries for Martin Havlat, although he did help the Blackhawks stage a revamp and comeback that took them to the playoffs for the first time since 2002.

After public negotiations that were well documented on Twitter, Martin Havlat left the Blackhawks and was signed to the Minnesota Wild in July of 2009. The Minnesota Wild roster gladly added Martin Havlat and named him an alternative captain for the 2009-2010 season.

In his first season with the Minnesota Wild, Martin Havlat notched 54 points on 18 goals and 36 assists. Martin Havlat will be counted on to provide even more offense during the 2010-2011 season.
