Mike Ramsey was born on December 3, 1960 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He played puck for the 1979 University of Minnesota NCAA Championship squad and the 1980 U.S. Olympic hockey team, which upset the Soviet Union and won the gold medal under legendary coach Herb Brooks.

Mike Ramsey skated in 18 NHL seasons, 14 of which were for the Buffalo Sabres from 1973-93. He also played for the Pittsburgh Penguins and the Detroit Red Wings where he went to the 1995 Stanley Cup Finals. He ranks third on the Buffalo Sabres all-time regular season game list with 911 games played. Ramsey played in four NHL all-star games in 1982, ’83, ’85, and ’86. In 1,070 games, Mike Ramsey has totaled 79 goals, 266 assists, 345 points and spent almost 17 hours of his life in the penalty box with 1,012 minutes. Ramsey was originally selected as the 11th overall selection by the Buffalo Sabres in the 1979 NHL Entry Draft.

Mike Ramsey joined the Minnesota Wild franchise on July 24, 2000. Before coming to the Wild, Ramsey spent three seasons as an assistant coach with the Buffalo Sabres. He has coached eight seasons with the Minnesota Wild.

Mike Ramsey lives with his wife, Jill, and three children in Chanhassen, Minnesota.
