Shane Hnidy was born November 8, 1975 in Neepawa, Manitoba, Canada. Growing up in Canada encouraged Shane Hnidy’s love of hockey and helped him to develop his skills as a defenseman. Standing at 6 feet 1 inch and weighing in at 210 pounds, Shane Hnidy is the perfect size for a right-handed defensive skater.
Shane Hnidy began his NHL career with the 1994 NHL Entry Draft in which he was the 173rd overall pick going to the Buffalo Sabres. Shane Hnidy never played a game in his Buffalo Sabres jersey and turned professional in 1996. Shane Hnidy then played for several minor league teams further developing his skills. Shane Hnidy spent time on the Saint John of the AHL, Grand Rapids of the IHL, Cincinnati and Adirondack of the AHL rosters before be traded to the Ottawa Senators in 2000 where he officially started his NHL career.
Shane Hnidy has spent time on several NHL rosters including the Anaheim Ducks roster, the Atlanta Thrashers roster, the Nashville Predators roster, and the Boston Bruins roster. In the summer of 2009 Shane Hnidy signed with the Minnesota Wild as an unrestricted free agent for a one-year contract. Shane Hnidy officially joined to the Minnesota Wild roster on July 3, 2009.
