More Info
Wes Walz was born on May 15, 1970 in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. He began playing hockey at the age of six. The most influential person on his hockey career was his father. His first job as a kid was laying sod. Growing up, Walz rooted for the Calgary Flames and his favorite player was Lanny MacDonald.

From 1988 to 1990, Wes Walz skated for Lethbridge of the WHL and was noticed by the Boston Bruins, who drafted him with their third round pick in the 1989 NHL Entry Draft. After seeing only two games of action in his rookie season with the Bruins, Walz bounced between the AHL and NHL until the 1996 season when he decided to play overseas for the Swiss League. Walz played there until the Minnesota Wild signed him on July 28, 2000.

It was his first year with the Wild that Wes Walz played all 82 games of the season. His best season with the Wild was perhaps the 2005-06 season, in which Walz skated all 82 games while scoring 37 points on 19 goals and 18 assists. Walz is a positive for the Wild when on the ice, as he has a career +28 plus/minus rating. Overall in his career, Walz has skated in 596 NHL games with the Boston Bruins, Philadelphia Flyers, Calgary Flames, Detroit Red Wings and the Minnesota Wild. His career numbers include 256 points on 108 goals and 148 assists along with 337 penalties in minutes.

Wes Walz resides in British Columbia during the offseason with his wife, Kerry-Anne and three children. “Walzy” enjoys spending time with his kids, trout fishing and playing golf during his down time.
