Wyatt Smith was born on February 13, 1977 in Thief River Falls, Minnesota.

Wyatt Smith spent four years at the University of Minnesota playing hockey in the WCHA from 1994 to 1999. His junior year was exceptional, when Smith scored 47 points in 39 games while compiling 62 penalties in minutes. He was drafted during his junior year with the Gophers by the Phoenix Coyotes in the ninth round of the 1997 NHL Entry Draft.

Wyatt Smith saw his first NHL action in the 1999-00 hockey season when he skated in two games for the Coyotes. The center’s first career point came in the next season, when he played 42 games and scored 10 points for the Phoenix Coyotes. Smith has spent most of his career in the AHL, where he played for Springfield, Milwaukee and Bridgeport.

On July 19, 2006, Wyatt Smith was signed as a free agent by the Minnesota Wild. In his first year with the Wild, Smith played a career-high 61 NHL games and scored six points on three goals and three assists. In his NHL career, Wyatt Smith has played for the Phoenix Coyotes, the Nashville Predators, the New York Islanders and the Minnesota Wild. His career numbers include 29 points on 10 goals and 19 assists in 186 games while logging 57 penalties.
